  2. Abnormal translation of transcripts has been reported for APP, and also for ubiquitin. This significance of these +1 proteins is unknown, but this interesting article shows that they can be toxic. When judging this work though, it is important to remember that the amount of +1 protein in the brain is much less than would be induced by a transfection. Thus, although the ubiquitin-B +1 protein has now been shown to be toxic, the effects of low level ubiquitin-B +1 on the brain remain to be determined. -- Benjamin Wolozin
