My follow-up communication with the wife of the patient reported on in this paper, 15 years after it was published, confirmed the original differential diagnosis that he did not have a progressive dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. He did, however, continue to complain of problems with attention and memory function until he finally passed away as result of complications from an unrelated medical condition, diabetes, which he developed later in life.
